Preparation of a Project Information Card (KIP)

When is a Project Information Sheet required?

A Project Information Card is required in proceedings concerning projects for which the competent authority assesses whether a full environmental impact assessment is necessary. The scope of the document depends on the type, scale and location of the project and its potential environmental impacts.

What does a Project Information Sheet contain?

The scope of a KIP is tailored to the type and scale of each proposed project. The document includes, among other things, a description of the investment, its location, key technical parameters, expected environmental impacts and information required by the competent authority to determine whether a full environmental impact assessment is necessary.

How do we prepare a KIP at MASAD?

We begin by analysing the project assumptions and the available documentation. We identify the information required, supplement environmental and technical data, prepare the draft KIP and verify its consistency before submission. Where necessary, we also support the client during administrative proceedings and in preparing responses to requests from the administrative proceedings and in preparing responses to requests from the competent authority.

What information is needed to prepare a KIP?

Preparing a Project Information Sheet requires, above all, information on the planned investment, its location, scale, technology and intended use. We also analyse information concerning emissions, waste, water and wastewater management, noise, the consumption of raw materials and energy, as well as the potential impact of the project on protected areas and the surrounding environment. If some data are not yet available, we help determine what information needs to be completed in order to prepare comprehensive documentation.

KIP and the Environmental Impact Assessment report

A Project Information Card is not the same document as an Environmental Impact Assessment report. The KIP provides the basis for determining whether a full environmental impact assessment and an EIA report will be required for a particular project.

If the competent authority requires an EIA report during the proceedings, MASAD can also support the investor in preparing the necessary documentation and throughout the subsequent administrative procedure.

How long does it take to prepare a KIP?

The time required to prepare a Project Information Card depends primarily on the type and scale of the investment, the completeness of the information provided by the investor and the scope of analyses required for the project.

In typical cases, preparation of a KIP takes from several days to several weeks. Before starting the work, we define the scope of the documentation, the required materials and the expected completion time.

If the project requires additional specialist analyses, ecological surveys or other studies, the scope and schedule are agreed individually.

How much does it cost to prepare a KIP?

The cost of preparing a Project Information Card depends on the type and scale of the investment, the scope of the required analyses and the completeness of the materials provided by the investor.

After reviewing the basic information about the project, we prepare an individual quotation covering the scope of the documentation, the expected completion time and any additional specialist studies that may be required.

For more complex projects, the price may also include coordination of specialist analyses, supplementation of the documentation and support during the administrative proceedings.

Does every investment require a KIP?

No. The requirement to prepare a Project Information Card depends on the type, scale and location of the proposed project and on whether the investment is subject to the procedure for obtaining a decision on environmental conditions.

What information is required to prepare a KIP?

The required information depends on the project. It usually includes basic technical data, the project location, a description of the proposed technology, information on the site area, utilities, emissions, waste, water and wastewater management, and design documentation available at the relevant stage of the investment.
